It’s summer! Yay! So much to love!
But there are some downsides to living in Texas – or anywhere hot.
If you’re active like me, you probably hit the gym at least a few times a week, then find yourself stopping by the market for just a few quick things afterwards. Just some bananas, or a jug of milk for the kids. You’ll be in and out in a jiffy. No time to shower at the gym, but it’s just a quick stop!
So there are you are in the produce section with a ratty looking ponytail and pink cheeks, and (ugh) the dreaded yoga pants sans coverup. Sure enough, you run into someone you know… Your child’s second grade teacher, your hairdresser, it could be anyone!
It’s Murphy’s Law: you’ll bump into someone when you don’t look your best.
While I don’t have any good ideas about looking better after a tough workout, I do have a secret potion I keep in the car to smell fresh when I need to run into a public space real quick. It’s cypress essential oil water…
Yes, Cypress: One of those unsung heroes of the essential oils world, IMO.
Did you know you can ditch that little sample-sized deodorant you keep in the door of your car for those sneaky swipes at your underarms when you stop at red lights. I used to do that, too. The problem is that in summer, those little tubes of deodorant turn to warm, sloppy mush in the heat. You end up with glops of icky, white junk which is worse than going without. Here’s a better idea…
Put several drops (10 or so) in a one-ounce brown bottle of water with a spray nozzle. Keep it in your car and spritz that instead. You’ll smell fresh and woodsy, which is a way better combo after a workout than any perfume-y scent. Cypress is one of the oldest deodorants! It may be considered an eensy-weensy bit masculine, but who cares? Better than smelling stinky!

“The Wood Eternal”
Cypress essential oil helps remove toxins and excess salt and water from the body, it helps circulation, it’s great for skin and hair follicles, and it has a stimulating scent. It’s wonderful for your healthy body!
Consider also, Cypress is extracted from the cypress tree, which has wood so durable that the cypress doors of Rome’s St. Peter’s Basilica show no sign of decay even after 1,200 years. (Isaiah 44:14) In fact, excavators found sound Cypress wood buried for over 100 thousand years along the U.S. Atlantic seaboard. No termite damage, no rot; just strong, solid, wood. Can you imagine?
Get to know this grounding force of nature to soothe and rejuvenate you after a workout, or any time you want to feel strong, and more confident.
