You know those girls who go crazy over beauty products? They collect all the nail polishes, sample all the glitters, sheens, and sheers, and experiment on their faces and everyone they know. They’re familiar with every product line created since their birth, and even remember the names of their favorite shades… you know that girl?
Well, that’s not me. I’ve never been really “into” make up. I mean, I’ve used it all my life, but never went out of my way to buy anything special in my teens and 20s. Most of my makeup came from the drugstore because I thought it was pretty much all the same.
Then my older sister got a job at a cosmetics counter in a department store, and she turned me on to “higher end” products. That was when I started noticing the differences in makeup… How it feels going on, whether it lasts for a couple hours or all day long, and how it looks. I started paying attention to how different makeups felt on my skin, too. Heavy, light, sticky, matte, sheer: I started to understand all those words, and to realize that you get what you pay for.
The REAL Cost of Make Up
It wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I began to learn how unbelievably toxic most cosmetics are. OK, to be honest, I really didn’t know, until I started using essential oils, how toxic most products are! If you want to see for yourself, you can download this Think Dirty app and start checking your beauty products – and the ingredients in them – for yourself.
Now that I know, I have a hard time facing the fact that most make up in my drawer is full of ingredients that I wouldn’t voluntarily use, or put on the skin of someone I love. But up until recently, what could you do? Just stop wearing makeup? Um, no. Call me vain, but a girl needs eyebrows and rosy cheeks, you know?
By the way, isn’t it funny that the more you understand, the more you have to live in integrity? You can’t just turn a blind eye to factual information after you have gone out of your way to find it and study it. Forget cosmetics for a minute. When your behavior doesn’t match your values, then you’re headed for real danger. Beauty starts on the inside.
Because I use essential oils every day, I know how readily the skin absorbs certain substances. I also know that most companies that produce cosmetics are not too concerned with where they source their ingredients or even what they put in their products. Really nasty chemicals found in make up.
Want to know how nasty? Check out the picture below.
The interesting thing about most cosmetics companies is that they either 1. they don’t know those toxic ingredients are in there (or so they claim); 2. they don’t really know if they are toxic or not; or 3. they don’t have to disclose exactly what’s in their products because regulations in the United States fall far below standards of countries around the rest of the world. (You really have to do your own homework.) Either way, it’s not great way to do business if you’re selling stuff that people put on their skin!
I knew my makeup wasn’t the best for me, but I couldn’t find a solution I felt good about, until very recently.
Savvy Minerals doesn’t compromise Young Living’s promise of integrity.

It imposes strict guidelines for its products, whether it’s adhering to its Seed to Seal ™ promise of integrity, or committing to total transparency to its members, its customers, and the government. Young Living dedicates itself first and foremost to the health and wellness of humans and animals.
I’ve learned to trust YL for every other product. We apply them topically and in the case of its Vitality™ line of essential oils, even ingest them! It was high time for Young Living to take the next step…
Finally, Young Living introduced a make up line this past summer that had everyone in a frenzy to try it. Why all the fervor?
All Savvy Minerals products are formulated with naturally derived ingredients and never contain any of the following:*
- Synthetic fragrance
- Synthetic colorants
- Cheap synthetic fillers

High Quality Non Toxic Make Up by a Trustworthy Company Was Long Overdue!
Because there is such a huge need in the market for quality make up made from pristine ingredients, and thousands of Young Living customers were champing at the bit to experiment with them; there’s been a run on some of the popular products.
I decided to let the hysteria die down after Convention before I doing my homework about the products I wanted to buy.
Now that the initial excitement has abated (just a little), it’s time to purchase a few things. But what to try? I was having a difficult time assessing the colors I saw on the website and the color cards I had taken home from convention. It was hard to judge which colors would look good on my skin.
I finally got my hands on some real live products, and used Savvy Minerals for the first time!
I was a little skeptical at first because I thought I liked cream make up. At least that’s what I usually use. I thought mineral make up was “powdery” and that it would show fine lines and look cake-y. Everyone who’d tried this make up assured me that wasn’t the case, though. They said you use a misting spray before applying the make up, and the result is a clean, fresh finish that lasts all day.
I wanted to see for myself to I signed up for a Young Living Beauty School with makeup artist Suzi Pannenbacker last week. Check out the album I created on the Into Oils Facebook page. We had a blast sampling all the goodies, and even received a celebrity-style color match. You can see before and after photos of some models, too. (See Savvy Minerals in action!)
What do you think of the result? I was not expecting a “dewey” look, but, it’s closer to that than dry-looking. A nice surprise. It’s very easy to apply and its coverage impressive. Another factor is my lifestyle and location: I work out daily, and heck, I live in Texas, so the humidity is something to be reckoned with! Will this make up stand up to the rigors of a busy day and a little sweat? We shall see. I will say that after the Savvy Minerals cosmetics were on my skin, they certainly stayed put. And I feel good about that.
Finally, I did a little taste test. I dabbed a little on my finger, tasted it and found absolutely zero perfume or chemical taste. No powdery effect, either. I’m certain this stuff is earth and human- friendly.
Besides getting a spa-like day of networking and beauty tips, I now possess a list of the perfect colors for my skin. I plan on using my essential rewards points to purchase some of the products I used in at the Beauty School event last week.
If you want to try some make up and are not sure which colors to try, let me know. I may be able to direct you to some samples or give you my best advice based on my first-hand experience with them. Give me a call!
