You may be hearing about the Essential Rewards program and asking yourself, “Why should I bother?”

Maybe you’ve heard a Young Living member say they only wanted to earn they monthly products for free. Well, this is exactly what they are talking about.
In fact, right now, I have about $300 in points that I can use to purchase just about anything my heart desires or my family needs.
See, every month, I replenish products we already love, and I pick a few we want to try for the first time. I have a regular list of products (daily supplements, cleaning supplies, personal care items) that we consume regularly. (Automatic shipments are yet another reason I love the ER program. But I’ll get to that later…)
Here’s a screen shot of my points and my earning rate from the Young Living Virtual Office.
As you can see, I can use $308.38 to purchase new product. (Young Living released so many awesome new products at Convention 2017, I’ll have trouble deciding, but I’m sure my balance will get spent soon!) I have to use at least $25.93 by March 15 of next year or else the points will expire and I will have lost out on a free bottle of, say, Lavender or Thieves cleaner. And I would never do that.
So there’s proof that you do indeed earn free product at a pretty good clip. I’m at the 25% point, which is the top tier of the rewards system. Next, you get convenience…
I don’t know about you, but every week of every month, I tend to buy pretty much the same things. Beans, Apples, Bread, Milk, etc. I have a grocery list I print out and keep on my counter with everything I frequently buy. There are some things that get replenished weekly, and some that get replenished monthly, but everything gets purchased on a regular basis.
By the way, I’m including my list here. [Click to view and download this all-purpose grocery list.] I call it the Dot Method of list-making because all you have to do is place a felt-tip marker dot next to each item you need. It’s way easier than actually writing each item. Plus, my kids are more likely to use it when something runs out, too! Let me know if it helps, or if there’s a glaring omission. Besides the staples, you can also order some extra things you’ve run out of. Some months you might add a few items for gifts, or for seasonal fun, or just to help a friend in need. But the point is, you no longer have to shop at retail stores for things you need. Just pop them into your ER cart.

To add to the convenience, you can change your shipping date every month if you need to. I like to get my order in by the 8th because then it’s staggered between the 1st and the 15th, AND whether it’s true or not, I FEEL better getting my order in the first half of the month. I’m not sure I get preferential treatment, but it’s more likely that something I really want and need is in stock each month if I get my order in. It’s a habit for me now, but rest assured, you can shimmy that order date around each month to meet your family’s spending and budgetary needs. It’s totally up to you.
Same with shipping. You can change your shipping options with each order, too. Two-day Fed Ex one month? No problem. Regular 3 – 5 day shipping the next month? That’s fine, too.

You get rewarded for your loyalty at months 3, 6, 9 and 12.

What is “PV” and why is it music to a Young Living member’s ears?
“PV” means personal volume, and it’s the way Young Living keeps track of how much product you are buying from your personal account. PV is one of the components of Young Living’s compensation plan, too. In order to receive a monthly check from Young Living, a member/business builder must purchase 100 PV in Essential Rewards every month.
The words “free PV” or “extra PV” are music to the ears of distributors, but for explaining why Essential Rewards is a fantastic rewards program, let’s just say that one (1) PV usually equals about $1.00. In most cases, if you put something in your cart that costs $25.00, you earn 25 PV Points. Are you with me?
When your order reaches about 100 PV, you typically get a free oil. When you reach 190 PV, you get a couple more oils. At 250 PV, you get yet another product. Often it’s something a little “out of the ordinary.” Then when your monthly Essential Rewards order reaches 300 PV, lo and behold, you get a really valuable free product, like a supplement, or a precious oil.
